Becker Fellowships

One of the goals of the Becker Center is to attract the most talented scholars with an interest and aptitude in combining innovative empirical work with theoretical tools in the price theory tradition of the University of Chicago. Appointing post-doctoral scholars, or Becker Fellows, is a key mechanism to accomplishing this goal.  Appointment as a Becker Fellow provides the recipient with the opportunity to work with and be mentored by the faculty at the Becker Center while pursuing his or her own research without teaching responsibilities.

Candidates must be at an early stage of their careers, meeting standards equal to or above that of the most selective departments.  The number of these positions at the Becker Center at any one time is limited normally to two.  The term of the appointment is one year, and is renewable for one additional year.  Becker Fellows are required to be in residence at The University of Chicago during the academic year.  They have no teaching requirement but must conduct their own research, attend seminars, advise PhD students, and mentor Becker Center research professionals and research assistants.  During their appointment they work closely with Becker Center faculty, who advise and mentor the Becker Fellow with specific focus on the scholar's research.
