

An inaugural Becker Fellow, his dissertation and current research focus on the economics of communication and persuasion, including topics such as advertising, marketing, the news media, and electoral competition.
Shapiro received a bachelor's in Economics and master's in Statistics from Harvard University in 2001 and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University in June of 2005. He is a Faculty Research Fellow in Labor Studies at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
He joined the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business as an assistant professor of economics in July 2007.
